Marcel’s Culinary Experience, Glen Ellyn, Announces July-September Class Schedule Focused on Seasonal, Outdoor Food Preparation, Plus New Classes for Young Cooks

Marcel’s Culinary Experience, a gourmet retail store and recreational cooking school in Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Chicago suburb), has announced its schedule of hands-on and demonstration classes for the third quarter 2013.

We’ve focused our cooking classes on ways to make use of the bounty of produce available this time of year, both in grocery stores, farmers markets and home gardens.

Marcel’s Culinary Experience (http://www.marcelsculinaryexperience.com), a gourmet retail store and recreational cooking school in Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Chicago suburb), is making summertime cooking – and eating -- easier and more fun with a new schedule of hands-on and demonstration classes for the third quarter 2013.

“We’ve focused our cooking classes on ways to make use of the bounty of produce available this time of year, both in grocery stores, farmers markets and home gardens,” explained Marcel’s owner Jill Foucré. “It’s a time when people like to grill and otherwise cook and eat outdoors. And they’re looking for fun activities to engage their school-age children during the summer break.”

To that end, Marcel’s is offering kids multi-day cooking camps in July for three age ranges (6 to 8, 9 to 11, and 12 to 16) and “mini-camps” in August for ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 11. Young cooks can sign up for individual sessions or an entire series, which are each focused on a single theme or type of ingredient. All events include a lunch featuring the dishes prepared in class.

Seasonally focused classes at Marcel’s third quarter include No Cook Summer Meals (July 9), Seafood on the Grill (July 11), Summer Appetizers (July 13), Cooking from the Summer Pantry (July 30), Summer Cooking for Two (Aug. 6), Farm to Table (Aug. 8), Summer’s Last Grill Feast (Aug. 29), and Best of Indian Summer (Sept. 25). The grilling classes use Kamado Joe ceramic grills, sold at Marcel’s.

A two-day canning and preserving workshop (Aug. 3-4) teaches participants how to capture the season by making homemade jam, pickles, relish, chutney and more.

Marcel’s “twilight” series of shorter, lower-priced demonstration cooking classes continues in the early evenings, complete with beer and wine service. Also, back by popular demand are cocktail party-style events featuring interactive cooking demonstrations, plus lots of sipping and sampling. Third-quarter cocktail events include Hacienda Cocktail Party (July 6), Girl’s Night Out with local restaurant flour + wine (July 18), Cocktails from the Garden (Aug. 2), and Bourbon and Beef (Sept. 7).

Continuing its series of U.S. regional and international cooking classes, Marcel’s offers Dinner from the French Garden (July 20), Escape to Cape Cod (Aug. 10), World Beach Party (Aug. 16), Summer Mediterranean (Aug. 17), Big Sur (Aug. 22), Nuevo Latino Small Plates (Sept. 13), Dinner in Istanbul (Sept. 19), and Ravioli, Risotto and Gnudi (Sept. 21).
