Macquarie Telecom (ASX: MAQ), Australia’s number one Managed Hosting and business-only telecommunications company, announced its $60m Intellicentre 2 (IC2) data centre in Macquarie Park has been certified for ISO 27001.

The certification adds to Intellicentre 2’s credentials as a world-class data centre for physical and cyber security, and follows the previous top-tier certification for ASIO T4: Intruder Protection. Macquarie Telecom facilities are highly accredited for managing information security in Australia, meeting compliance standards set by ASIO and the Defence Signals Directorate and the Payment Card Industry.

“ISO 27001 is an indicator of our ongoing investment in ensuring the highest levels of cyber-security and anti-intrusion capabilities for Intellicentre 2, in order to meet and exceed the rigorous standards of our government and enterprise clients,” said Macquarie Telecom MD, Hosting Aidan Tudehope. “While already certified to a world-class level for data security in all forms, Macquarie Telecom will continue to invest in ensuring the resilience and responsiveness of our systems against an ever-evolving threat landscape.”

Intellicentre 2 was certified to ISO 27001 by internationally-recognised certification body SAI Global for its robust Standards approach to Information Security Management Systems, which governs physical and non-physical security assets including host-based intrusion detection and prevention systems, securely-built server infrastructure, and strong physical security, and biometric access control systems. SAI Global cited the adaptive and highly-integrated security policies required to attain ISO 27001 that has helped maintain Macquarie Telecom’s strong track record in minimising privacy and data breaches supported by Macquarie Telecom’s investment in support services like its $5m MacquarieHub customer centre in the Sydney CBD.

Commenting on the certification, Aidan Tudehope said: “In recognising the mission-critical nature of our clients’ applications and data, we’ve sought to implement an extensible security framework at Intellicentre 2 that goes above and beyond any other Australian data centre. ISO 27001 certification acts as the foundation for almost every global security standard, and indicates that Intellicentre 2 is indeed an example of best-practice information security policies with global applicability.”
