Unique feature: walk-in door in the main slide-out.
Smith Center, Kansas (PRWEB) June 14, 2013
Peterson Industries, manufacturer of Excel luxury 5th wheels and travel trailers, rolled out yet another pioneering feature that will change the way people think about RVing. Peterson’s design team is proud to introduce the SDF floor plan, with a first-in-industry walk-in door in the main slide-out.
“The SDF floor plan is a definite game changer,” said Bryan Tillett, president of Peterson Industries. “Having the front door in the slide-out creates an expansive interior configuration, and allows for the addition of a convenient half bath. I think everyone – from weekend campers to full-timers – will love the layout this feature provides.”
A clever combination of design and physics makes a front door in the slide-out possible. “It’s all about the steps,” said Tillett, “or rather how they’re stored for transport.” The new design allows the steps to be folded up and locked into place with a mere 14 pounds of lifting weight. When extended, the steps are designed to accommodate varying terrain heights without performing any manual adjustments.
Mike Nebel created the patent pending step design for Lippert Components.
While ease of setup and transport are definite pluses, Tillett said the biggest benefit of having the front door in the slide-out is revealed inside. “You will notice a definite sense of space,” he explained. “The front door configuration in the Excel SDF floor plan creates an open, roomy feel in the unit’s living room and kitchen area. It also allows for a half bath that can be accessed without the slide-outs extended. That makes pit stops quick and convenient while the unit is rigged for transport.”
The layout also includes a spacious master bath at the front of the unit, with double sinks, a king-size shower, and room for a washer/dryer. The master closet spans the entire length of the bedroom slide-out, providing greater storage space that is easy to access.
Currently the SDF floor plan is the only one to feature the new walk-in door on the slide-out, but plans are underway to include it in other floor plans in the future. For photos and a drawing of the floor plan, go to http://www.excelrvs.com/5th-wheels/excel-winslow/sdf-floorplan.
Another Excel innovation includes a Rhino Eco-Coat roof system that extends the life of the roof, and reflects the sun’s UV rays. Excel was the first in the industry to provide this maintenance free system.
