It’s a great honor to have a Minnesota city’s great-tasting drinking water rank among the top in the nation.

The panel of judges at the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) 2013 Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE13) in Denver has announced that International Falls, Minn., is ranked among the top cities in the nation for best-tasting drinking water. The “Icebox of the Nation” tied for second place with the Northeast Sammamish Sewer and Water District (Wash.) during the AWWA’s national “Best of the Best” drinking water competition on Tuesday. The judges awarded Oklahoma City with the top prize, and conference attendees selected Louisville, Ky., for the People’s Choice award. A total of 23 public water utilities entered this year’s contest.

“MN AWWA congratulates International Falls for winning this high-profile award,” says Patrick Shea, MN AWWA Section Chair. “It’s a great honor to have a Minnesota city’s great-tasting drinking water rank among the top in the nation.” In September, International Falls earned a spot at the national competition after winning the “Best in Glass” water taste test championship at the MN AWWA state conference in Duluth.

AWWA advances public health, safety, and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the water community, and currently has more than 50,000 members across the country - including 4,700 utility members.
