Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) June 14, 2013

The American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) presented Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago with the 2012 Excellence in Practice Award for the Moment One Readiness Orientation (MORO) practice the hospital used during its move on June 9, 2012.

The hospital moved 127 critically ill patients from its Lincoln Park location three miles away to a new facility in downtown Chicago. To prepare the five thousand plus employees and volunteers, the hospital’s Clinical & Organizational Development Department helped prepare and train staff for the once in a lifetime move. The Moment One Readiness Orientation strategy has been sought out by hospitals nationally and recommended by consultants working with executives to hospitals contemplating such herculean moves.

“Because of MORO, we were able to safely care for patients and families at the very first moment we opened the new hospital doors for service,” said Diana Halfer, MSN, RN, NEA-BC Administrator of Clinical & Organizational Development.
