Construction Begins at New North Loop Apartment Development, District 600

Michael Development, Inc., St. Croix Real Estate, Inc. and Residential Renewal, Inc. announced today that construction of District 600 began June 14, 2013. The 93,869 square foot project is a 78- unit apartment development located at 600 Fifth Street North in the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis. Completion and occupancy is planned for June 2014.

District 600’s new six-story building and grounds are designed to be transit, pedestrian and bicyclist friendly. The project, designed by award winning architectural firm, Collage Architects, includes a first floor retail spaced planned for a new restaurant, five-stories of residential homes and two levels of underground parking for residents. The location is directly adjacent to Fulton Brewery, across the street from the newly proposed Hennepin County transit plaza, The Interchange, and less than one block from the Minnesota Twins baseball stadium, Target Field.

“District 600 will offer residents proximity to transit, employers and Minneapolis’ best recreational activities, entertainment and restaurants,” said Terry McNellis, a principal at St. Croix Real Estate. “This development was planned in response to the demand for competitively priced apartments in the downtown area.”

The project construction team includes Collage Architects, Stonebridge Construction and developers, Michael Development, St. Croix Real Estate and Residential Renewal. Bremer Bank is the project lender and Michael Development will be handling the property management and leasing. The project has received assistance from Hennepin County under its Transit Oriented Design (TOD) Program for transit friendly development.

The project is also designed to attract new residents to the city with its stylish design, North Loop neighborhood location and its proximity to downtown Minneapolis. Nearby, the Hennepin County transit plaza, The Interchange, is now under construction and will also be completed by June of 2014. Building amenities include a fitness center, rooftop deck with grills, outdoor patio and bike repair station and storage.
