A Charleston police officer used an ALPR system from NDI Recognition Systems to recover a stolen car last Sunday, according to a Charleston City Paper article posted June 14. The vehicle had been reported stolen by Hertz Rental Car in West Columbia, SC, after a customer named Courtney Michelle Thomas failed to return the vehicle on April 9.
According to the City Paper, the officer spotted the car on Interstate 526 with the help of an NDI license plate reader. The ALPR system informed the officer that there was a possible arrest warrant associated with the vehicle, and the officer pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver on a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle.
