The judges of the 2013 Purple Dragonfly Book Awards contest, which recognizes excellence in children's literature, have spoken. "Wilson Won't be Bullied!" by award winning author and illustrator Susan Castriota, and author, Radio and TV personality Rose Tennent has won an Honorable Mention award for the category of "School Issues". A complete list of winners can be found at Five Star Book Awards.
Bullies select their victims carefully and they do so with skill, choosing individuals that they perceive will be the most susceptible to being abused and dominated. "Wilson Won't be Bullied!" seeks to impart effective means for children to avoid being a target of bullies through the development of self-confidence and self-esteem. The beloved and precious Wilson, who is the focus of the books in the series by Castriota called Willie Wilson's Wondrous Tails, is an integral part of the stories about bullying that are present in the book, "Wilson Won't be Bullied!"
Susan Castriota's passion for drawing combined with her love for dogs and the plight of homeless pets, was the inspiration for the first book "Wilson Gets Adopted!" Castriota has received book awards for her other children's books "Wilson Learns Manners" and "Wilson and the White House Pups". Castriota does TV appearances and is available for "author day" at schools.
Rose Tennent is an author, radio and television personality for over 25 years, although she prefers above all else the title of "mom". Tennent's book "Thanking Our Soldiers" is a collection of inspirational stories of the generosity and kindness of Americans to those who serve in our military.
