Our collaboration with Texthelp to integrate this assistive technology is an exciting new development that fosters student confidence in demonstrating their true abilities and provides teacher assurance that their classroom objectives are being reached.
Monterey, Calif (PRWEB) June 19, 2013
Pacific Metrics Corporation (http://www.pacificmetrics.com), a leading provider of online assessment technology solutions, announces their partnership with Texthelp Inc. to introduce text-to-speech functionality to Pacific Metrics’ formative assessment solutions. Texthelp’s SpeechStream application enables test questions to be read aloud, providing additional support to students with a variety of learning styles and needs.
This functionality will debut in August as an added feature in the math assessments contained within Louisiana’s EAGLE system, a statewide formative assessment program delivered by Pacific Metrics. Texthelp’s SpeechStream technology not only allows students to listen to selected text, but visually connects students to the text by highlighting the words and sentences in contrasting colors as they are read. Hearing and seeing text read aloud is a research-proven method that improves access, engagement, and comprehension for students with reading disabilities or challenges. Students can now focus purely on the math concept being tested and teachers can access student test results that reflect their actual math ability.
Pacific Metrics is committed to enhancing its assessment systems with innovative capabilities that empower students and educators with actionable data, and to advancing students toward college and career readiness. “We are dedicated to utilizing appropriate technology to help all students succeed,” states Bob Guerin, Acting President & CEO of Pacific Metrics. “Our collaboration with Texthelp to integrate this assistive technology is an exciting new development that fosters student confidence in demonstrating their true abilities and provides teacher assurance that their classroom objectives are being reached.”
