TROY was recently assigned a U.S. patent (8,405,882) for TROY Copy Evident Pantograph, a secure printing technology that digitally produces a unique foreground and background pattern. This new TROY pantograph is proving to be an effective copy prevention method for printed prescriptions that are produced on plain paper.

TROY Copy Evident Pantograph is one feature found in the TROY SecureRx family of solutions. These products combine the new TROY pantograph, TROY microprint and TROYmark, a variable data anti-alteration technology. These technologies work together to create multiple layers of security on tamper-proof prescriptions printed on plain paper. More than 250 hospitals in the U.S trust TROY SecureRx solutions to secure their prescription issuance processes.

Imaging technology advances create new threats of prescriptions with undetectable differences between the copy and the original. Watermarked paper has been a popular and effective method of determining the authenticity of a prescription when comparing a photocopy with an original prescription. Like watermarks, TROY’s patented Copy Evident Pantograph is invisible to the untrained eye on the original document and helps to detect photocopying. The technology creates a covert pattern on the background of a document. When the document is photocopied, tiny pixels appear to form the word selected in the software interface, like “void” or “copy”.

Prior to the introduction of the TROY pantograph technology, healthcare professionals who wanted to produce original prescriptions including an anti-copy feature would be required to purchase special security paper with a pre-printed pantograph. The TROY software that includes the Copy Evident Pantograph technology adds the unique copy evident pattern to the prescription directly from an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system print data stream. The TROY SecureRx solutions employing this technology have been successfully integrated with 15 of the leading hospital EHR systems in use today.
