Summer camp isn’t just for kids. At ReVival, the family-owned home décor and design destination in Bee Cave, Texas, adults of all ages can learn techniques to customize furniture and décor for a one-of-a-kind look during a series of do-it-yourself workshops this summer (and year-round). Located at 13308 HWY 71 West, these on-going classes are part of the ReVival University program, which specializes in teaching a range of skills for home design solutions.
Participants will learn the proper technique when using La Craie (chalk-based) paint and wax in Paint Basics 101. Unlike any other paint product, there is no preparation needed before using it -- no priming, no stripping and no sanding. La Craie dries to a soft, velvety finish and is low in organic volatile compounds. Learn the best way to apply the paint with a two-step technique and the proper method to apply the finishing wax. The $125 fee includes all paint materials, a sample jar of chalk paint and an item to decorate. Alternatively, participants can bring in a small item from home. Classes are offered every Saturday from 10am to 12noon throughout the summer. Register at Eventbrite or by calling 512-263-4182.
Revival U also offers a Glacage Embossing and Faux Finishing Class. Glacage Embossing Crème is an acrylic, water-based, thick texturing cream that mimics the look and feel of intricately carved wood. During this four-hour class, participants will also learn how to apply Le Craie paint and the proper method to apply the finishing wax, plus the art of antiquing furniture, gold-leafing, foils and applying organza shimmers. Taught by Revival U's Nicola Rumsey, this class meets on Wednesday evenings from 5-9pm or Fridays from 10am – 2pm. A $195 fee includes all class materials, a cabinet to decorate and take home and five sample boards to take home. Registrants can also bring wine; Revival will provide glasses and bottle openers. Register at Eventbrite or at 512-263-4182.
Full-day Open Studio Workshops are ideal for anyone with an old family heirloom sitting in the attic (or elsewhere) gathering dust. Participants bring in a piece of furniture in need of new life and work alongside Revival’s Le Craie paint artist, Nicola Rumsey. The workshop includes personalized consultations for color, application technique and wax finishing options. Class registration is $325.00 and includes all materials plus lunch and wine.
Due to space requirements, this workshop is limited to four guests per class and is held every second and fourth Sunday of the month throughout the summer. Register online at http://www.revivaltx.com/#!__revival-u or by calling 512 263 4182.
“We love the history behind vintage and older pieces, but so many have been cast aside and forgotten,” said ReVival co-owner, Tara Camp. “These workshops aim to revive beloved pieces that tell the story of generations gone by, giving them a modern sensibility while preserving the characteristics that make them special and unique.”
After 12 years and nine moves in the real estate development industry, David and Tara Camp, along with their three daughters, landed in Austin in 2008. Launched in November 2010, ReVival is a home goods-centric retail destination that pays homage to living with good design – both new and vintage. Born from the family’s addiction to vintage finds and living a simple and sustainable lifestyle, ReVival also offers art classes for adults and children, interior design classes, and gardening classes.
