Hometown Health, LLC has partnered with Florida’s Department of Health, Office of Rural Health to facilitate a financial improvement collaborative designed to support and enhance the financial position of the thirteen Florida Critical Access Hospitals. These healthcare facilities serve mostly rural communities and face a unique set of operational challenges. Originally created with the input of this specific group, the collaboration’s focus is to identify and address areas of need and opportunity to help ensure financial viability.

A FLEX grant was awarded to Hometown Health, in the amount of $25,000. The Florida FLEX program is dedicated to financial performance improvement and with this partnership is elevating Financial Improvement and Operational Intervention to the next level. Hometown Health has been a leader in financial and reimbursement education since 2000 and focuses on the financial success and viability of rural hospitals in Florida and Georgia. Through workshops, webinars, courses, education from industry experts on reimbursement and revenue cycle improvement, tracking benchmarks, and on-site hospital visits to ensure participation and further collaboration, Hometown Health is creating the foundation for a statewide collaborative with the potential to reach far beyond the financial arena of hospital viability.

“Launched in the fall of 2012, this collaborative continues to be a great opportunity for the Florida Critical Access Hospitals. The chance to share information, ideas and what has and has not worked in their facilities is extremely beneficial to all of the participants. Learning more about the issues they face, where they are excelling and the areas that could use some improvement is essential to their success and in some cases survival. The indicators that were chosen are a good gauge of improvement or the lack thereof." says Susannah Cowart, Customer Relations Coordinator for Hometown Health’s Florida Division.
