The Miami personal injury lawyers at Steinger, Iscoe & Greene are closely following the news about the collapse of the outdoor deck of Shuckers Bar & Grill. According to The Miami Herald (6.17.13), people were on the 120-foot long dock, eating, drinking and cheering on The Miami Heat when the wooden structure snapped in a v-shape, sending 100 patrons into the water below. Twenty-four people were injured.

According to The Miami Herald, the concrete blocks covering the reinforced steel supporting the deck had apparently deteriorated and much of the steel itself was corroded.

Steinger, Iscoe & Greene is a Miami personal injury law firm that has handled a number of collapse cases. Docks can collapse when there is a flaw in the foundation, the plans are incorrectly devised or too many people are on it. When a deck collapses, serious injuries can occur. An experienced Miami injury lawyer can help identify the causes of the collapse and obtain fair compensation for injured victims of the accident.

“Responsible entities should be held accountable for the injuries and damage done,” said Steinger.

Records show that the restaurant underwent a required 40-year inspection approximately six months before the accident, reported The Miami Herald. However, Engineer Steven Jawtiz, who conducted the January report, said he did not inspect the deck. He said the Miami-Dade County building code did not require him to do so.

Investigations into the cause of deck collapse have begun. Questions have already been raised about the inspection that was conducted before the accident.

“It is entirely likely that the victims injured in the accident could have personal injury claims against the restaurant, the county or other negligent parties involved,” said Steinger. “Our Miami lawyers are available 24/7 to offer injury victims a free consultation.”

Steinger, Iscoe & Greene has obtained millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for clients. The firm is dedicated to helping neighbors in the South Florida area.
