This year's annual golf event was characterized by a sold-out field of golfers, excellent weather , low scores and lots of fun and prizes.

Golf Fore Heart's eleventh annual fundraising event, also known as the Guy P. Fernandez Memorial Golf Tournament, held on June 12 was acclaimed an overwhelming success, setting new records for participation and funds raised.

The co-chairs, JoAnne Zawitoski of Semmes, Bowen & Semmes and Mark Montgomery of Ports America, Inc., hosted more than 150 guests, who participated in this annual event at the beautiful 18-hole Mountain Branch Golf Club in Joppa, MD. The course is a regional favorite and rated as a “must-play” by Washington Golf Monthly, the Washington Times and Mid-Atlantic Golfer.

Guests were entertained by singer/songwriter Danny McDonnell and enjoyed on-course refreshments and an excellent lunch prepared by golf course personnel. A number of golfers were recognized for their excellent play and low scores.

A highlight of the event was the Society for Heart Attack Prevention & Eradication's comprehensive cardiovascular health screening that included checks of blood pressure, cholesterol, carotid artery plaque and vessel wall thickness using Panasonic Healthcare's CardioHealth Station and a measurement of vascular function using the Vendys medical device. Dr. Morteza Naghavi, SHAPE's Founder and Board Member, provided medical consultations to all who participated.

Major Sponsors included Atlantic Container Line, APM Terminals, Inc., Brown Advisory Group, Brown Capital Management, BalTerm, Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, Casey Overseas Corporation, Ceres Marine Terminals, Columbia Partners, Investment Performance Services, Landon, Butler & Co., LP, McCall Handling & Hyster Company, McCarthy Tire and Automotive Centers, Panasonic Healthcare, Ports America Chesapeake, LLC, Propeller Club of Baltimore and Semmes, Bowen & Semmes.

Proceeds will be used to benefit the Steamship Trade Association of Baltimore Charitable Legacy, the 2013 Community Counts Campaign, several other local charities as well as SHAPE's public awareness projects, professional accreditation programs and to support cardiovascular research.

While there is still a buzz around this year's tournament, the event co-chairs are already considering ways to make the 2014 Golf Fore Heart Annual Golf Tournament an even bigger success.
