McKissock Expands Market as Maryland Appraisal Board Accepts Online QE

Recent rule changes allow MD appraisers to take qualifying education classes outside of the classroom.

Appraisers in Maryland looking to fulfill their qualifying education (QE) requirements now need look no further than their own laptops. The MD Appraisal Board has approved a rule change that will now allow residents to take any or all of the QE hours needed to become a licensed appraiser online.

In response to this change, McKissock will now offer the entire range of appraisal qualifying education courses online, allowing appraisers to trade the live classroom for the virtual one.

These courses include the 75 hours required to become a Trainee Appraiser and the 150 hours needed to become a Licensed Appraiser, as well as those classes required for an appraiser to upgrade to a Certified Residential or Certified General license.

Previously, the Maryland Appraisal Board had required that all QE hours be taken on site, which may have limited accessibility to some appraisal trainees. “This change is going to make it much easier on appraisers looking to fit QE into their busy schedules,” said Matt Eubanks, VP of Appraisal Education at McKissock. “Our goal with these courses is to provide a flexible, convenient alternative to the traditional classroom.”

With this rule change in place, Maryland joins the 38 other states that allow appraisers to take their qualifying education online. It is also the 38th state to be included in McKissock’s online QE appraisal curriculum.
