RadioBDC Launches The Social Countdown, a Music Countdown and Chart Determined by Listeners

We have the smartest and most tech-savvy listeners in the city, we trust them and their feedback is vital to us. The Social Countdown is another way for their voices to be heard, and it legitimizes the way radio countdowns are done for the first time.

RadioBDC (http://www.boston.com/ae/radio/), the live, streaming radio station on Boston.com, today launched The Social Countdown (link available below), a daily radio show that puts listeners in complete control of determining the most popular music in Boston and beyond.

The Social Countdown takes from some of the biggest social media and online music subscription services to determine the biggest alternative tracks of the moment. RadioBDC listeners, as well as artists, can vote on Boston.com for their favorite songs, showing in real time the most popular music of the moment.

The Social Countdown reflects not only the voice of the listeners, but also what people are talking about on social media, weighing each source against the others and allowing for differences in influence hierarchy. Pointslocal’s (http://corporate.pointslocal.com/home/) charting platform gathers and ranks data from social media and music sites such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Last.fm and Spotify, along with up-voting on Boston.com.

The Top 10 tracks of the day stream online via RadioBDC using a progressive technology created by Pointslocal called TrendTracks, which shows instant changes in popularity. The social and discoverable nature of TrendTracks means that a new song could conceivably hit the charts the same day it gets released.

The artists whose songs make it onto The Social Countdown will have their profile pages added to Boston.com. These pages include content aggregated from the artist’s own site, as well as from blogs and social media.

Weekdays at 5 p.m., RadioBDC personality Adam12 will showcase the listeners’ top 10 songs of the day, along with the biggest movers and shakers of The Social Countdown.
