Dr. Jürgen Greiner, Executive Vice President and Head of Product Development of Powertrain Technology, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, has been honored with SAE International’s Timken-Howard Simpson Automotive Transmission and Driveline Innovation Award.
Established in 2007, this award recognizes an engineer from the automotive industry for outstanding contributions to the technology progress and dissemination in the area of automotive transmission and driveline. It also acknowledges new ideas, concepts, innovations or applications that will assist in improving the technology.
This award is funded by the Timken Company in cooperation with the SAE Transmission and Driveline Committee and is in honor of Howard Simpson. Mr. Simpson invented and developed a planetary gear set which constituted the basis for the Ford C4 and C5 transmissions to be produced for over 20 years, beginning in 1964. His innovation also allowed for the Chrysler TorqueFlite transmission and several other GM transmission models. It also celebrates Timken Company’s commitment to technical innovation and creativity.
In the past, Dr. Greiner has served as Group Vice President and Head of Product Development for Passenger Car Transmissions at ZF Getriebe GmbH as well as taking over the position of Managing Director at the ZF Engineering Center.
Prior to that, Dr. Greiner worked as Vice President and Head of the Business Unit Transmission Systems for LuK and worked as Director of Transmission and Driveline Development at Mercedes Car Group.
Dr. Greiner received his doctorate degree at the University of Stuttgart in Mechanical Engineering.
