Idea-driven contest is part of an exclusive partnership with FDOT and TBARTA

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) and Dunn&Co. have launched a campaign to encourage carpooling and minimize traffic along the I-275 improvement zone. Startup 275 invites carpool teams to use their commuting time to create an entrepreneurial idea, with presenting sponsor Cox Media radio station 97X awarding a $10,000 grand prize to “startup” the winner’s idea. Details and registration are available at the official startup275.com website.

Startup 275 is open exclusively to commuters who travel to and from work or school at any point between the Howard Frankland Bridge and the Hillsborough River at least 12 days per month. Participants must form a carpool team with other commuters and together create a novel idea, which can fall into a variety of categories, with the winning team ultimately being selected by the public. Each carpooler could also earn a $25 VISA® Gift card each month for fulfilling 12 days of carpooling. Some restrictions apply.

"Startup 275 is an inventive program that will benefit the Tampa Bay community. The ability to get more people carpooling, making the I-275 commute safer, and being rewarded for it is a good movement and we think people are going to jump on the bandwagon,” said Katina Kavouklis, transit coordinator with FDOT District 7.

“We’re very happy to be partnering with the FDOT, TBARTA and 97X on this program,” said Troy Dunn, president of Dunn&Co. “Helping future entrepreneurs get a jump start on their dreams, and promoting this effort in tandem with the idea of putting less cars on the road is a win-win for everyone involved.”
