Ed Mangano, Nassau County Executive, is hosting the Field of Honor to recognize veterans that have served in the United States of America Armed Forces. Community members can purchase flags to honor these notable individuals with a flag that will be displayed at the Theodore Roosevelt Building in Mineola, NY.

The Theodore Roosevelt Building has grown to be a remarkable site, exhibiting quite prominent features. Given that the United States takes every opportunity to honor those that have served this country, it became prudent that Nassau County enforce this movement and show recognition. In past years, a "Wall of Honor" was built as a tribute to veterans that lost their lives for the sake of this country’s freedom. Additional memorials were made to acknowledge residents and firefighters of Nassau County whose lives were taken during the 9/11 terrorist attack.

In recent weeks, Ed Mangano, a prominent leader among the Long Island community, expressed a need to develop another memorial site at the Theodore Roosevelt Building. Similar to the Wall of Honor, this executive decided to construct a Field of Honor. This memorial will allow community members to purchase flags, individually priced at $35, to honor veterans whom defended this country. Payments can be made by writing a check to “Friends of Nassau Recreation” and sending it to “ATTN: John DiFiglia, 1899 Hempstead Turnpike, Eisenhower Park Administration Building, East Meadow NY 11554.” Upon purchase the flags will be placed in the Field of Honor, located alongside the Theodore Roosevelt Building, to recognize these individuals on an even larger scale.
