The award-winning video, dubbed “Santa Style” was developed and produced as the agency’s 2012 holiday “e-card” and reinforced its capabilities in “gorilla-style” creative social media content creation and sharing, as well as online video creation, production and promotion.
To help break through the holiday communications clutter, the agency produced a shareable video, leveraging the phenomenal YouTube trend at the time, “Gangnam Style.” The video e-card featured the agency’s staff and family doing an original remake of the popular YouTube sensation for the holiday season. “Santa Style” was written, shot, produced, edited and promoted by the RL&A staff.
“We wanted to leverage this once-a-year outreach opportunity to showcase the agency’s creative social media and video production promotion capabilities – as well as the people who work here - with something unexpected and pretty much un-staged, even humorous, that would facilitate sharing in social mediums and generate qualified engagement with the agency,” explains Alyson O’Mahoney, EVP and partner, RL&A.
The social video surpassed viral status by earning more than 13,000 views via strategic organic promotion and sharing exclusively. (According to industry sources, such as TubeMogul, only seven percent of YouTube videos earn more than 10,000 views; recently, Mashable noted that this level of video views is considered “viral” status when obtained via organic methods only.) During the period of the video’s launch, the agency experienced increased engagement on its Facebook page, more traffic to its website and an increase in new business leads during Q1 2013.
