Dating a single parent requires more commitment, so fathers often lie on their profiles in order to attract more singles.
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) June 20, 2013
Father’s Day is a time for men to celebrate fatherhood and their role as a parent—that is, unless they are online dating. WhatsYourPrice.com surveyed 13,587 members nationwide in order to determine the relationship between fatherhood and online dating.
When male users logged onto the website, they were asked, “Do you have any kids?” Their answers were then cross-referenced with the information submitted on their profiles. Based on these results, nearly 1 in 3 men (34 percent) nationwide lied about having kids on their online-dating profiles.
Of all the cities surveyed, Columbus ranked the highest nationally—46 percent of Columbus members surveyed lied about having children on their online dating profiles.
The study discovered a direct correlation between age and honesty—the younger the father, the more likely he will lie. In fact, approximately 52 percent of men were under the age of 30.
The most common lie? Men claiming to not have kids, when in actuality, they do.

The site’s Founder and CEO, Brandon Wade, believes these lies are a reflection of society’s skewed perception of single parents.
“Fathers are initially reluctant to talk about their kids in fear of losing potential partners,” says Wade. “Dating a single parent requires more commitment, so fathers often lie on their profiles in order to attract more singles.”
