Cricket works to alleviate the negative impact on the environment with product offerings certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC®).

The Lights International Operating unit of Swedish Match AB, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, today announced that the recently introduced Cricket 5-Minute Firestarter is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC®). The FSC is an independent, international non-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Cricket has taken active measures to reduce the environmental impact of all its operations, including the selection of materials used in the creation of new products.

FSC certified products matter to the sustainability of the world’s forests, which filter the air we breathe, the water we drink, and house nearly half of the world’s species. Over the past 20 years, the FSC has earned its reputation as the most rigorous forest certification system. Cricket proudly stands behind the efforts of the FSC to promote environmentally and socially beneficial forestry, a view that is reflected in the design of its products.

An increasing number of consumers correlate a company’s level of social responsibility with exceptional product quality and value. Cricket takes this concern to heart when developing and packaging its products. The Cricket 5-Minute Firestarter, which easily lights campfires, fireplaces and more without the need of kindling, is manufactured using FSC certified wood, cardboard, and other controlled sources. In addition, the Cricket Candle Lighter and Multi-lite utility lighter are refillable– saving resources while increasing product value for the consumer.

Purchasing FSC certified products helps to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests to ensure that:

  •     Harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest's biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes
  •     Local people and society at large enjoy long-term benefits and strong incentives to sustain forest resources and adhere to long-term management plans
  •     Forest operations are structured and managed to be sufficiently profitable without generating financial gain at the expense of the forest resource, ecosystem, or affected communities

Cricket products are used every day by nearly 200 million consumers throughout 140 countries.
