Employees who have remained with an organisation for a number of years have weathered recessional pay freezes, redundancies and budget cuts, so I’d say they have stayed where they are for a lot more than just the money.

Good benefits packages can have a real influence on encouraging important employees to remain within, and engage fully with, an organisation - Emma Roberts has said in a new Find the Edge article.
She uses the post to explain why benefits have such a critical impact, and how employers can create attractive packages without breaking the bank.
She said: 'An organisation is only as good as the employees who are engaged to remain with it. So why, time and time again, do we come across those who are struggling to not only find but keep those key staff members who will take their organisation from being good to being great?
'The answer, I believe, is simple… benefits are the key.
'Employees who have remained with an organisation for a number of years have weathered recessional pay freezes, redundancies and budget cuts, so I’d say they have stayed where they are for a lot more than just the money – they’ve stayed for the whole package.'
Roberts believes recruitment and retention has changed since the recession started, because of employees being required to work longer hours, take on more stress, and cope with wage freezes.
As a result, benefits have taken on a significant role in staff retention, and lowering staff turnover.
She said: ' Benefits needn’t cost the earth either – have you looked at flexible working as an option, by allowing an employee to start two hours later for example?
'This can improve their work-life balance and keep them engaged, meaning you can keep your office open longer to give an edge over your competitors at minimal cost.
'Being aware of your competitors’ packages, plus market rates for salaries, is critical in such a tight and candidate driven market.'

Kenny Goodman, founder of Find the Edge, said: "Businesses need the right people within them if they're going to succeed and grow.
"As Emma rightly points out, it's essential to keep these people happy and engaged with your company once you've got them. Otherwise, they will soon move elsewhere."
