The UK’s National Bike Week is an annual event set up to promote cycling and demonstrate how it can be easily incorporated into our everyday lives. With this year’s event drawn to a close what better time for businesses and organisations to get on board and become involved with the Government’s Cycle to Work Scheme.

The Scheme, which is open to UK employers of all sizes, allows employers to provide employees with the opportunity to purchase a tax free bike as a sustainable transport alternative for their commute to work.

The Cycle to Work Scheme not only benefits employees it also has many benefits for the employer including:

  •     Fitter, healthier and more productive staff
  •     Decreased employee sickness levels
  •     National Insurance contribution savings
  •     Increase car parking for staff and visitors
  •     Reduced carbon footprint

Cycling is an excellent mode of transport for the daily commute, not only is it cost effective, environmentally friendly and fun it helps employees keep fit and healthy. However, just as car parking space is a necessity for employees driving to work, employee cyclists require a safe and secure space to park and store their bikes during working hours.

By providing employees with adequate cycle parking and bike storage facilities employers will encourage more employees to participate in the Scheme. To support employers with this decision CSI Products have developed a ‘Best Practice for Cycle Parking at Work’ guide that provides informative and useful advice on the provision, management and location of commercial bike parking and cycle storage.

Businesses and organisations can choose from a wide range of commercial products that have been specifically designed to provide appropriate parking and facilities for cyclists including:

  •     Sheffield Cycle Stands
  •     Covered Cycle shelters
  •     Cycle Compounds
  •     Bike Lockers
  •     Cycle Racks
  •     Cycle holders and stands

What they choose is dependent of those who intend to use the facilities. It is therefore advisable that those responsible for selecting suitable parking consult with the intended users.

Employers interested in learning more about the types of bike parking available to businesses and organisations should read the ‘Types of Cycle Parking and Bike Storage’ guide that has been developed by CSI Products or visit the Cycle Shelter website for a detailed look at products available.
