Wilderness Ventures Offers Scholarships and Financial Aid to Teens

Leading teen summer camp outfitter extends financial assistance to teens in need. Students that have an interest in the great outdoors can benefit from assistance in joining one of Wilderness Ventures' programs.

Scholarships are available for teens who show an interest in outdoor adventure with Wilderness Ventures

Wilderness Ventures, started the scholarship program in 2005 in order to give underprivileged students an opportunity to participate in the programs.

Wilderness Ventures, the oldest and most experienced adventure travel program offering teen summer camps, offers a scholarship program to students that are interested in joining one of Wilderness Ventures’ innovative outdoor adventures for young people. These scholarships are offered in the form of tuition discounts and in some cases complete tuition coverage for students who are in need.

“When our scholarship program The Hole Idea started, the recipients were mostly from the Jackson Hole area where our headquarters are located,” said Mike Cottingham, Owner and Program Director at Wilderness Ventures. “Now we have recipients from all over the United States. Our hope is that this valuable program continues to grow.”

The company, which has offered teen summer camps for more than 40 years, started the scholarship program in 2005 in order to give underprivileged students with an interest in the great outdoors an opportunity to participate in the programs. Each summer, as many as thirty participants receive financial assistance ranging from $500 to $2,500. To date, Wilderness Ventures has awarded 287 students $568,859 in financial assistance.

The scholarship is funded by a portion of Wilderness Ventures’ profits as well as generous donations from parents whose children have participated in various programs. In some cases, parents will donate a students’ airfare or airline miles so that a needy student can participate. Wilderness Ventures has also received assistance from partner businesses like Exum Mountain Guides and Climbing School who offer the company a discounted rate so that students can participate. To apply for the scholarship, students and their parents must provide tax returns, letters of recommendation, and fill out an application that includes an explanation and demonstration of their desire to join one of Wilderness Ventures’ programs.
