For a 12-year-old girl, the dream of meeting favorite TV stars – and even going on an exciting Los Angeles set during filming – is just a fantasy.
But the international children’s charity Kids Wish Network, along with generous sponsors and the cast and crew of the hit ABC crime drama show NCIS, made that dream come true for 12-year-ld Emma Bush of Freemont, Mich., who recently was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.
"With the generosity and the enthusiasm of kind partners like CBS and the crew of NCIS, we were able to bring this dream to life for Emma,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Anna Lanzatella. “There is nothing like bringing a smile to the face of a child in need, and we are privileged to be able to improve their quality of life.” Kids Wish Network grants similar dreams for thousands of children every year.
Just last year, Emma was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a disease that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. Emma’s condition was so bad that no nutrients were being absorbed into her body and she was immediately started on a drastic regimen of enzymes to help reverse the damage being done.
When she had the opportunity to request a wish through Kids Wish Network, Emma wanted nothing more than to visit the Los Angeles NCIS set, watch an episode being filmed, and hang out with actors Mark Harmon, Pauley Perrette, Mike Weatherly, and David McCallum.
To make her dream come true, Kids Wish Network arranged an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for Emma and her family along with extra surprises, gifts, limousine rides to and from her destinations, a guided tour of Los Angeles, and even tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood.
“It was amazing,” said Emma of her wish-come-true adventure. “I felt like a star and everyone was so nice to us. I loved everything, but going to the set of NCIS was definitely my favorite.”
Emma arrived at CBS Studios in a limo and was given a VIP tour of each NCIS set. She especially enjoyed her visit to Abby’s closet to try on some gothic boots, and visiting Abby and Ducky’s lab, where she happily laid out on an autopsy table for a picture.
During the tour, Emma watched scenes being filmed and met up with actress Pauley Perrette, actor David McCallum, and writer Scott Williams. She was also introduced to actor Mike Weatherly and star Mark Harmon.
“I couldn’t believe it all. It was so awesome. I got to see everyone and go everywhere. It was neat to watch them filming…it was amazing,” said Emma.
Once home, Emma shared her adventure with friends, added a new Hollywood snow globe to her growing collection, and wrote thank you letters to everyone who made her wish possible.
“I’m so happy I got my wish granted,” said Emma. “Because if I didn’t, I never would have gotten to do something like this on my own.”
