On June 22, Spartan Race, an international obstacle racing series, congratulates racer Crystal Hughes on her engagement after the Spartan Sprint in Kalispell, Montana.

According to the Spartan blog, Hughes got more than a medal after completing the Montana Spartan Sprint in May. After she reached the finish line, Marcus, her boyfriend of four years, proposed to her.

“During the race Marcus was there by my side the whole time encouraging me and helping me accomplish every challenge, but the biggest obstacle was at the finish line,” Crystal says in the blog. “While collecting my medal, I turn around to see Marcus on one knee. He said how much he loves me, how I am his best friend and a great mother to our son, and he asked me to marry him.”

Marcus had the ring in his pocket for the entire race. After the two of them finished, he placed it on Crystal’s muddy hand.

Spartan Race CEO and founder Joe De Sena says, “We wish Crystal and Marcus all the best as they continue their journey. Hopefully they will continue to race with us and raise more little Spartans one day.”

Crystal and Marcus want to share their hobby with their son as soon as he can run.
“Spartan will always be much more than just a run,” Crystal says in the blog. “It’s a life changing moment for everyone who attends.”
