Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) June 24, 2013
On June 24, Spartan Race, an obstacle racing series, commends Robert Peredina for running the Vermont Spartan Beast in support of a friend who has muscular dystrophy.
According to the Spartan blog, Peredina is an avid Spartan Racer. To date, he has completed the Tri-State Super Spartan, the Vermont Spartan Beast and the Amesbury Spartan Sprint. However, Peredina is not just running for himself at this year’s Vermont Beast — he is also running for his friend, Zack Heger, who was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Peredina credits Hedger’s own strength and determination to motivate him to finish every race.
“Zack and other courageous young men with DMD prove strength cannot be measured and reminds us that we should all take pride in the gifts we have,” Peredina says in the blog.
Peredina has pledged to raise awareness for muscular dystrophy and donate any cash prizes he wins from placing in the Spartan Race to The Zack Heger Foundation, which funds research and preventative care for the 1 in 3,500 men born with DMD. “My small part is to be a voice for Zack’s amazing story and raise awareness for the countless other boys who have been affected by Muscular Dystrophy,” Peredina says in the blog.
Spartan Race CEO and founder Joe De Sena applauds Peredina for his efforts. “Spartan Race challenges participants physically and mentally, but Peredina reminds us that there are others who face even bigger challenges every day,” De Sena says. “His friendship and compassion are an inspiration to all of us, and we are proud to call him a Spartan.”
