Be funny or die. Such is the fate all stand-up comedians face, including the upcoming Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival, co-headlined by Dave Chappell and Flight of the Conchords.
Fortunately for aptly-named event promoter, Funny or Die, early ticket sales show America's appetite for stand-up comedy is alive and well.
“Once tickets were released, the comedy tour immediately shot to the top of our most popular list,” said Felina Martinez at online ticket marketplace BuyAnySeat.com.
The festival will play 13 dates this fall, and marks Chappelle's return to high-profile touring, which the popular stand-up comedian has hinted about in recent months. It also marks the first time Funny or Die has launched such a large-scale tour, which will include two stages, street performers, vendors, psychics, freaks, tasty treats and more, according to press notes.
The tour opens at the Austin360 Amphitheatre in Austin, Texas on August 23, 2013. Following dates are set for the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Spring on August 24 and Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas, Texas on August 25; First Niagrara Pavilion in Burgettstown, Penn. On August 30; First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in tinley Park, Illinois on August 31; and DTE Energy Clarkston, Michigan on September 1.
Additional dates in September include the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey on the 6th and Holmdel, New Jersey on the 7th; Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass. on the 8th; Fiddlers Green Amphitheatre in Englewood, Colorado on the 13th; Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine on the 15th and Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on the 20th.
The current wrap is set for the Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona on September 22, 2013.
“Sales traffic for the Oddball Comedy tour has been extremely positive on top of the ticket release this weekend,” said Felina Martinez at online ticket marketplace BuyAnySeat.com.
“We’re proud to be able to offer fans the industry’s most comprehensive and continuously updated selection of tickets, with a worry-free guarantee to protect their purchase,” said Martinez.
“To access the complete listing of Oddball Comedy tickets now available, customers can go to BuyAnySeat.com and search for Oddball Comedy – then select their tickets,” said Martinez.
After an abrupt exit from his popular Comedy Central sketch gig, Chappelle's Show, in 2005, Chappelle has remained an elusive figure. He has performed sporadically since then, with varying results. A recent run of impromptu shows in February with Chris Rock, Kevin Hart and others at The Comedy Cellar in New York was well received.
Two stages are planned for the festival, and other performers are listed as Al Madrigal, Brody Stevens, Chris D'Elia, Demetri Martin, Hannibal Buress, Jim Jefferies, John Mulaney, and Kristen Schaal.
