According to Kaspersky Lab and Forbes Magazine, botnets and precision targeted malware are two of the top thirteen security trends for 2013. The term botnet comes from the word robot and is used to refer to a network of computers being used by criminals to distribute malware to infect other computers on a wide scale basis. Once infected, the computers can be used by the criminals to commit crimes or fraud without the owner’s knowledge. Industry experts predict that botnets will become smaller and more difficult to detect. Precision targeted malware is also becoming more sophisticated and attackers are expected to perfect their targeted attacks to bypass security measures.

Certified Ethical Hackers, possessing the professional certification from the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants or the EC-Council, are knowledgeable in finding, preventing or fixing computer security vulnerabilities using the same type of methods used by criminal hackers. This practice also known as penetration testing requires top IT security skills. The U.S. Department of Defense now recognizes the CEH certification for four categories of Defense IT job requirements.
