During Brown’s reception speech at his daughter’s wedding he said there are two reasons why the celebration was special. Marcus was one of those reasons.

Arvol Brown was stationed in Germany when he met Bridgette* in 1971, they married and soon after had a son, Marcus, at Nellis AFB in Nevada. War broke out in Vietnam and Brown was deployed to Southeast Asia, twice.

When Brown returned from the war, he went to Germany to join his wife and son who were staying with her family. However, a yearlong, wartime separation took its toll on their relationship and upon arriving in Germany realized their marriage ended. Marcus and his mother were moving stateside and Arvol lost his son.

Fast-forward, 38 years. Arvol contacted Search Quest America in hopes of finding his son. He had searched for many years on the web with no results. He was determined to find Marcus and make things right.

Marcus was always curious about his father but was content with his life with his mother and stepfather. He was raised as an only child and had a happy childhood.

Then, the phone rang one December morning in 2012. “It was Susan with Search Quest America calling to tell me my father wanted to reconnect.”

Brown and Marcus have gotten to know each other over the past few months, Facebook and phone calls bring the family closer each day. Since reunited with his father, Marcus has enjoyed having siblings as well.

“It was amazing that I got to meet everybody at my sister’s wedding,” said Marcus. “Now that I know that I have siblings, I’m enjoying my time with them. I look forward to keeping in touch with them for the rest of our lives.”

Brown was thrilled to hear that he would get to see his son again after almost four decades. Of course, meeting face to face with most of his children present was icing on the cake for Brown and Marcus.

“I just hugged his neck,” said Brown. “When my other kids came out that moment was really tough.”
