Andover, Massachusetts (PRWEB) June 24, 2013
According to a recent medical study released by the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (June 18, 2013), child safety restraint systems have been found to be increasingly effective at preventing serious injury and deaths amongst children between the ages of four to eight years old. Tom Kiley Sr., Massachusetts personal injury lawyer, comments on the increasing role that child restraint systems have as more injury studies continue to be released.
According to the study, children deaths between the ages of one and three years old have fallen by more than 50% in the past three decades, but motor-vehicle collisions are still the leading cause of death amongst those between the ages of one and seventeen. The study found child safety restraint systems, such as booster seats, to significantly decrease the mortality rate when properly utilized.
Rather than creating programs directed towards decreasing costs for financially struggling parents, the doctors involved in the study suggested increasing awareness campaigns to highlight the life-saving potential of restraint systems for growing kids.
Tom Kiley Sr., Massachusetts Car Accident Lawyer, has assisted several people who have been involved in collisions that injured themselves and their families. “Having worked with several families that have suffered injuries from motor-vehicle collisions I believe the general public is aware of the importance of car seats. What is particularly interesting about this study are the age groups for which car and booster seats were found to be effective. As more studies continue to focus on children between four and eight years old, evidence continues to develop that supports booster seats for children up- to four feet nine inches tall. I highly doubt that the majority of Americans are placing their seven or eight year old in a booster seat in the back of their vehicles, but these studies recommend it.
“We have seen first-hand how the improper use of seat belts and car seats can lead to serious injury or death. These studies are the first step towards a better-informed public and safer kids. If putting our children in a booster seat until they are eight will greatly increase their chance of survival in a car accident, parents need to know. Hopefully we will continue to see the evidence develop and the information spread,” said A
