“WebRTC: APIs and RTCWEB Protocols of the HTML5 Real-Time Web” co-author, Dr. Daniel Burnett, releases newest edition during WebRTC Conference & Expo in Atlanta.

Whether you're a developer looking to understand what WebRTC can do for you, or a marketing person wishing to gain a deeper understanding of an important industry development, this is the book for you.

Voxeo Labs, the leader in real-time communications APIs, today announced the release of the 2nd edition of “WebRTC: APIs and RTCWEB Protocols of the HTML5 Real-Time Web”, co-authored by Voxeo Labs Chief Scientist, Dr. Daniel Burnett, and Dr. Alan Johnston. Beginning June 25, the new edition will be available from Amazon in paperback and digital formats, and contains the latest updates on the W3C and IETF documents for the emerging WebRTC standard.

WebRTC, Web Real-Time Communications, is revolutionizing the way web users communicate, both in the consumer and enterprise worlds. WebRTC adds standard APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and built-in real-time audio and video capabilities and codecs to browsers without a plug-in. With just a few lines of JavaScript, web developers can add high quality peer-to-peer voice, video, and data channel communications to their collaboration, conferencing, telephony, or even gaming site or application.

The 2nd edition has all new chapters on Signaling and Security & Privacy, as well as runnable educational WebRTC demo code (client and server-side) and further details on NAT traversal with ICE, STUN, and TURN protocols. It also introduces and explains the W3C APIs and the IETF protocols of WebRTC and makes complicated concepts and technologies such as peer-to-peer media and NAT and firewall traversal easy to understand.

“We’re really happy about this edition,” said Burnett, who is also an editor of the two main W3C WebRTC specifications. “Between the runnable code sample and the signaling chapter, the book should enable anyone with web or telephony experience to get their feet wet in this exciting new space.”

“Whether you're a developer looking to understand what WebRTC can do for you, or a marketing person wishing to gain a deeper understanding of an important industry development, or a strategy person digging deeper into what WebRTC is and isn't, this is the book for you,” said telecommunications industry expert Alan Quayle in his review of the 1st edition of the book.

In his role as Chief Scientist, Dan guides the standardization efforts of Voxeo Labs products including the Phono WebRTC Server, which recently became the first WebRTC Gateway with support for audio and video encryption through the Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) standard. Developers who want to go beyond the simple demos included with the book can use the free Phono SDK by Voxeo Labs to build full-fledged WebRTC-enabled applications.

“Voxeo Labs has always been committed to pushing the envelope when it comes to emerging standards like WebRTC,” said Jason Goecke, President and CEO of Voxeo Labs. “Dan has been key in driving these efforts and is one of the most respected experts in voice communications and web technologies.”
