Visitors to New York this summer will soon have something special to add to their vacation itineraries: the newly repaired Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is one of New York City’s most famous landmarks, but this iconic part of the metropolitan skyline has been closed to visitors for some time. Now, starting July 4, 2013 Smart Destinations’ travelers can once again enjoy tours of this historic statue as part of a special ferry package, which includes round-trip fare between Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island.
The Statue of Liberty was closed in 2011 for regular conservation work, although Liberty Island remained open for visitors for the duration of these repairs. In the fall of 2012, however, Hurricane Sandy caused damage to Liberty Island and so the National Park Service closed the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to the public altogether. Fortunately, the Statue of Liberty is refurbished and ready to be open for visitors just in time for the Fourth of July holiday.
“The Statue of Liberty is a must-see landmark for any traveler to New York,” said Kevin McLaughlin, CEO of Smart Destinations. “We’re thrilled that our customers can visit this iconic New York attraction as part of their budget-friendly vacation.”
The Statue of Liberty ferry is available on the New York Explorer Pass and the Go Select New York Pass, making it easy and affordable for all Smart Destinations visitors to New York to include this attraction in their vacation plans. Travelers can visit the Statue of Liberty as one of several choices with the Explorer Pass, or include it in a customized vacation itinerary with the Go Select Pass.
Other popular attractions available with the New York Explorer Pass and Go Select New York Pass include the Empire State Building, a tour of Rockefeller Center, admission to world-famous museums like the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of art, and much more.
