SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (PRWEB) June 25, 2013
The Joe Foss Institute (JFI), in partnership with The Lynn & Foster Friess Tornado Challenge Fund, announced a scholarship essay contest available only to Oklahoma high school students impacted by the recent tornadoes. Two winners will be chosen and each will receive a $5,000 scholarship to Oklahoma State University. Students currently in their freshman year at Oklahoma State University may be eligible to enter. Complete rules may be found at http://www.joefossinstitute.org.
The essay contest is centered on the theme, “Rebuilding Together – How I am working to help my community.” Essays will be evaluated based upon: creativity, theme development, clarity of ideas, and mechanics. Entries must be submitted electronically by Sunday, July 21, 2013, to Scholarship@joefossinstitute.org and the winner will be notified by August 11, 2013.
“We are proud to offer this scholarship opportunity,” said JFI CEO & President Lucian Spataro. “Originally, we had one scholarship to grant. Now, through the generosity of The Lynn & Foster Friess Tornado Challenge Fund, our scholarship was matched and two students will benefit.”
A well-known philanthropist, Foster Friess promised in May to match $1 million in donations to help tornado victims. Friess, who traveled to Moore after the tornado, notes, “The entire country watched the tragedies unfold and witnessed the true spirit of civic engagement and community spirit. We want to reward that spirit.”
