“By allowing care providers to learn and practice clinical techniques and procedures in a realistic environment, Simulation-Based Training can help hospitals improve overall quality of patient care.”

Improving Quality of Patient Care and Reducing Health Care Costs
In today’s health care landscape, hospitals are challenged to improve patient safety and reduce health care costs. Simulation-Based Training from MSC and Raytheon provides blended learning to health care professionals across a wide range of hospital clinical areas, with a focus on creating clinical and cost control results. Led by clinicians with educational expertise, immersive learning programs grounded in evidence-based medicine offer a comprehensive array of simulation technologies and online courses that are customized based on hospital needs and participant knowledge assessments.
AHA Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of the AHA, awards the AHA Endorsement to products and services that help member hospitals and care organizations achieve operational excellence. Following a proprietary due diligence process, Simulation-Based Training from MSC and Raytheon Professional Services (RPS) was selected for endorsement for enabling hospitals to measure, increase and maintain health care provider team knowledge of evidence-based guidelines for early recognition, prevention and treatment of health care conditions.
“As reimbursements shift to reflect value over volume, the ability for health care facilities to consistently provide high-quality care is paramount. Not only can it improve their operations, but striving to provide the best possible care for their communities is simply the right thing to do,” said Anthony J. Burke, President and CEO of AHA Solutions. “By allowing care providers to learn and practice clinical techniques and procedures in a realistic environment, Simulation-Based Training from MSC and Raytheon can help hospitals improve overall quality of patient care.”
Additionally, MSC is building a national campaign to save lives and reduce health care costs through the implementation of MSC Quality Initiative Programs. Sepsis, one of the initial clinical focus areas of the campaign, accounts for more deaths in the U.S. annually than twice the number of deaths from breast and prostate cancers, AIDS and auto accidents combined. Sepsis-associated mortality can be reduced by 50 percent through the application of evidence-based guidelines, but hospitals are only implementing these guidelines in 11 percent of patients.
“As the largest hospital association in the world with nearly 5000 hospital members, the AHA’s exclusive endorsement provides a tremendous opportunity for MSC and Raytheon to empower hospitals in achieving a significant national impact in improving the quality of patient care and reducing health care costs,” said William Younkes, President and CEO of MSC.
RPS’ solutions will leverage extensive experience designing and implementing learning simulations that range from Web-based and instructor-led training to immersive gaming and beyond.
“Our partnership with the AHA and MSC will impact patient safety through improved clinical simulation training solutions,” said Dave Letts, vice president and general manager, Raytheon Professional Services. “Our demonstrated success in developing scalable training programs for high risk environments, in which there are significant consequences for errors, will help to drive results for AHA’s member hospitals.”
