For the past few years, bizjobz had focused solely on direct hire placements rather than contract staffing services due to the challenges involved with running contractors through their own back-office, according to the firm’s Executive Vice President of Recruiting, Scott Leishman who has more than 30 years of business and recruiting experience.

They serve as the legal W-2 employer, handling all of the legal, financial, and administrative details of contract placements for recruiters. These tasks include creating legal contracts with the clients and contractors, payroll processing and funding, tax withholdings and filings, unemployment, Workers’ Compensation, background checks, and employee paperwork and issues. In addition, they offer contractors a full menu of benefits, which includes health insurance through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield that is in compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare).
TEC allows bizjobz to meet its goal of fulfilling all of its clients hiring needs. This is especially important for their technology placements which are often tied to the installation and implementation of enterprise software systems.
“These are big ticket items with big ticket installations,” Leishman said. “Typically, they only need people for 6, 12, 18, or 24 months. Neither the software vendor nor their client wants to add full time staff for temporary projects.”
He is also finding that offering contract assignments is important to attract the best candidates. Many prefer contract staffing, so much so that they will refuse to even entertain direct hire opportunities.
“I think it’s a lifestyle choice,” Leishman said. “It’s hard work, but it’s really rewarding. Many of them like to travel. They also probably make more hourly than they would working on a full-time salary.”
