Youngster Nick Franklin has only been in the major leagues for less than a month, but he is quickly making a name for himself. The 22 year old from Florida is already known to be a clutch hitter in crucial situations for the team. In the Mariners game on Saturday, June 22, 2013, Franklin hit a two run single off Oakland pitcher Ryan Cook in the eighth inning. The run gave the Mariners a 7-5 win over the A’s Saturday night. In the seventh inning, the Mariners were down by three when Raul Ibanez stepped up to the plate. Ibanez hit a three run home run to tie the game at 5-5. Brendan Ryan then led off the eighth with a single off Cook and proceeded to second base on a wild pitch. Endy Chavez then got on base with a single bunt. That is when Franklin came in with a single to left field to bring in both players on bases. His three hits in the game and three RBI’s matched career highs and his final hit was his first game-winning hit of his short career. Franklin’s three hits against Oakland brought his average up to .295. He in total has seven doubles, four home runs, and 13 RBI’s in 25 games. His teammates and coaches have noticed his knack to hit well in high pressure situations and his ability to stay calm. He stated that he just tried to be relaxed when these situations come into play.
