The world’s premier international triathlon team, teamTBB, announced during a recent press conference at RedTail Mountain Golf Course, they are locating their official United States training base in Mountain City, Tennessee (Johnson County). teamTBB is a select group of international Ironman competitors from around the globe, including Switzerland, France, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Columbia, England, Mexico, and the U.S.A.
Athletes will train in the Northeast Tennessee region between the months of May and August. The U.S.A. base of operations will be located at RedTail Mountain Golf Course, and sponsored by Lyle Habermehl, owner of the facility in Northeast Tenn.
Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey and Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker attended the event on behalf of Governor Bill Haslam, and extended an official “Welcome to Tennessee,” to teamTBB.
"It only makes sense that Ironman triathletes would come to the home of the Iron Mountains to train for one of the most rigorous contests in sports,” said Lt. Governor Ramsey. “Team TBB is a great organization with a worthy mission and Johnson County is a beautiful place full of hardworking people. It is a perfect fit."
Tennessee State Representative Timothy Hill, Johnson County Mayor Larry Potter, Mountain City Mayor Lawrence Keeble, Lyle Habermehl, owner of RedTail Golf Course, Robbie Haywood, coach for teamTBB (team The Best you can Be) also attended the event and brought special remarks during the press conference.
Commissioner Whitaker concluded her remarks by stating, “Not only is teamTBB here to be the best they can be, they have found the best place to be here in breathtaking Mountain City, Tennessee.”
The Ironman Triathlon competition involves three continuous endurance and sequential disciplines which are: swimming 2.4 miles, bicycling 112 miles and a marathon run of 26.2 miles. The Ironman World Championships are held annually in October on the Big Island of Hawaii (Kailua, Kona).
As an organization, teamTBB also focuses on helping 'development athletes' who might otherwise not have the opportunity to succeed as a professional triathlon athlete. As the partnership grows in Northeast Tennessee, teamTBB will not only train athletes to chase their dream, but to have a social impact on their community thru hosting training camps for visiting athletes, and working with local children and youth to encourage them to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle.
