As the national average property price reaches a record high, Teacrate Packaging reveals that the number of online searches for moving boxes is also heading for a peak this summer.

More people than ever are searching for moving boxes online according to packaging provider Teacrate Packaging reflecting a growing activity in the UK property market.

Last week, Rightmove revealed that the national average asking price of a property has hit a record breaking £252,798, the sixth consecutive monthly price rise in 2013.

Several factors are believed to have contributed to the rise, including lower mortgage rates, inflation-eroded prices and an increase in confidence among consumers.

Teacrate Packaging, part of the PHS Group, believes that this boost to the market is reflected in the number of buyers and sellers looking for packing solutions online.

Ruth Scruton, Marketing Manager for Teacrate Packaging, said: “We are delighted that the UK property industry is showing signs of recovery after the recession hit in 2008.

“Our own research indicates that more people are hunting for moving boxes on the web than ever before, indicating buoyancy in the market which has been absent since the start of the recession.”

Looking at search patterns with Google Trends, Teacrate Packaging found that there has been a steady growth in the number of searches for “moving boxes” online in the UK, after a notable dip coinciding with the 2008 credit crunch.

According to the figures, June 2013 will see the highest search volume for this phrase in almost a decade.

Ruth Scruton said: “We find that online searches for products like packing boxes and crate rental peak during the summer, as families look to move house ahead of the new school term in September.

“2013 is no exception, and if the trend continues interest in moving boxes will remain high throughout June, July and August.

“We believe that not only does this reflect a new confidence in the UK housing market, but also a growing preference for finding packaging solutions online.

“As one of the leading online brands on the supply of removals packaging, Teacrate Packaging welcome this positive trend.”
