On Tuesday evening, June 25, 2013, the New York Yankees faced the Texas Rangers in a game pitched by two Japanese players. The matchup between the two pitchers was only the 11th time in Major League history. Yankees’ pitcher Hiroki Kuroda struck out six, but suffered two home runs in his 6 2/3 innings. Rangers’ pitcher Yu Darvish went 5 1/3 innings and gave up three home runs, while striking out six. The Rangers began the scoring in the third with one run, then each team had one run in the 4th and 5th. New York established a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning, and that is how it remained until the ninth. At the bottom of the 9th inning, Yankees’ Suzuki ended the game with a walk off home run. It was the team’s fourth solo home run of the game. The others came from Travis Hafner in the fourth, Brett Gardner in the fifth, and Jasyon Nix in the sixth. The homerun marked the Yankees first walk off win of the year as well as their third win in four games. The blast was also Ichiro’s second walk off home run of his career. With the win, reliever Mariano Rivera picked up his first win of the season. The game was played in a packed crowd of 41, 674 at Yankee Stadium and brought the Yankees within one game behind the first place Boston Red Sox in the loss column.
