Small Businesses are Generating Huge Web Marketing Results by Following Basic Search Engine Guidelines

BoostSuite user data reveals surprising insights. Small business marketers who adjust their websites to comply with basic search engine guidelines increase website visitors by 214% and purchases by 146%.

BoostSuite today announced the results of a comprehensive study of small business websites and search engine best practices. Data was collected during the first six months of 2013 from over 6,000 small business websites tracked by BoostSuite.

Results show that even a small increase in compliance with search engine guidelines delivers huge improvements in web marketing results.

BoostSuite measures compliance with search engine best practices by analyzing website pages and assigning them with grades from F through A+. Sitewide optimization grades are then calculated for each website as a whole.

Small business marketers use BoostSuite to see how in or out of compliance their websites are with search engine best practices. BoostSuite then walks users through a list of simple changes that their sites require to conform with search engine guidelines. Website traffic, sales leads and purchases (known as marketing conversions), and website grades are tracked by BoostSuite over time.

In the analysis BoostSuite compared improvements to users’ website grades with increases in website visitors and marketing conversions.

“We’re really excited to announce that BoostSuite users who increased their optimization scores saw average increases in website traffic of 680 visitors/month” said Aaron Houghton, co-founder and CEO at BoostSuite. Houghton added “In addition, these same users saw their online marketing conversions go up by 146%.”

Paying for visitors from the search engines is a popular and costly marketing technique among small businesses. But many small business marketers neglect the huge opportunity that lies in improving their existing websites to attract more free visitors from the search engines.

“What is really interesting is that BoostSuite users who attained these results were mostly using our entry-level $19/month plan. By contrast, purchasing this exact same number of website visitors using Google Adwords would cost $2,380/month”(1) said Daniel Smith, co-founder and CMO at BoostSuite.

Positive increases in website traffic and marketing conversions were seen at all levels of improvement in optimization grades, showing that implementing even just a few required website changes begins delivering results.

Along with the announcement, BoostSuite is making its software free to all small businesses who have websites with less than 25 pages and that receive less than 50 visitors each month.

“We’re thrilled to give small business marketers a little competitive edge to grow their businesses and challenge their larger competitors.” said Daniel Smith. “The best way to start improving your web marketing results on your own is to try BoostSuite, follow the simple suggestions, and begin increasing your website’s optimization grade.”
