HVL Interiors, an award-winning interior design firm based in Santa Fe, New Mexico announces it's participation in the recent win of the People’s Choice Award for the Parade of Homes Albuquerque 2013, the highest honor for the city’s spring tour. Additionally, HVL Interiors contributed to the project that won the Grand Hacienda Award for the Summer of 2012’s Santa Fe Hacienda Parade of Homes.

HVL’s work with Patriot Homes, located in Albuquerque, NM, required a collaborative effort between the designers, builders and homeowners to select finishes, fixtures and a mixture of a high-contrast contemporary look that also had an organic timelessness. Ebony and white were tempered with grays and taupes while quartzite added sparkle and texture. White walls and glass tile balanced bark-like carpet and linen wallcovering.

“We love helping to create moments of wonder and amazement—combinations that at first might not feel comfortable or expected, but allow people to walk away transformed, lifted, or pleasantly surprised,” said Steffany Hollingsworth, who directed the interior design. “These projects tend to generate the buzz that any builder or architect wants when putting forth the resources to enter a project on a home tour.”

The Grand Hacienda Award, earned during last summer’s Santa Fe Hacienda Parade of Homes, was for the design of a home on Cordova Road by Green Star Builders that also had a contemporary and eco-friendly feeling. Inspired by the builder-homeowners’ use of organic materials and the living plant wall in the entry, HVL implemented artisan-made driftwood and Lexan chairs, a slideshow of African culture by a local photographer, and a great deal of texture with rugs from a Santa Fe based rug designer. HVL wanted to let the range of materials, finishes, detailing, and architecture shine while the addition of furnishings and art enhanced the existing elements.

“We think of home tours like art installations, where the public can see and react to our design work, much like they can experience our hotel and restaurant projects,” said Heather Van Luchene. “Our entire HVL team gets involved in developing the concept and then works together on the installation. We typically only commit to staging one tour home and the project really needs to resonate with us before we make the commitment. We prefer to collaborate with the builder and/or homeowner with finish and material selection from the beginning to get the most cohesive result. This has been a great key to our success.”
