The luxurious Montagu Arms Hotel in the village of Beaulieu, Hampshire, has been awarded the Considerate Hoteliers ‘Sustainable Food Award 2013’.
Winner for the second year running, the charming four star New Forest hotel, in the heart of the New Forest National Park, has retained this prestigious award which seeks:
‘The hotel or accommodation provider which, in the opinion of the judges, has gone 'that extra mile' in 2012 to support its local food producers; to produce and/or purchase ethically, seasonally and sustainably; and then to proudly demonstrate to their guests and restaurant users – through marketing and via the menu, great food and hotel staff – why they are doing so.’
The awards took place on the 6th June at the Landmark London, with each winner receiving an inscribed Darlington Crystal award and 6 months free use of Ecompter, a carbon footprint measuring service specifically designed for hotels and approved by PWC.
The Considerate Hoteliers Association was formed in 1992 as a way of ensuring that hoteliers showed a degree of care for the environment and their guests and so introduced their annual Considerate Awards which give hoteliers and ‘managers the opportunity to demonstrate that they care about their guests, staff, community and planet’.
The Considerate Hoteliers Association said: “The Montagu Arms who also won this category last year braved the possibility of not winning this year by entering again.”
“Despite being pushed hard by The Cavendish London, they emerged triumphed. Congratulations to Executive Chef Matthew Tomkinson and the support of all at the Montagu Arms ably headed by manager Sunil Kanjanghat”.
As well as winning the Considerate ‘Oscars’ for a second year running, The Montagu Arms has and continues to collect multiple awards for its luxurious New Forest accommodation, exquisite cuisine and flawless service.
The quaint, privately owned New Forest hotel currently holds the only Michelin Star in the New Forest, and three AA Rosettes for the admired Terrace Restaurant with Head Chef Matthew Tomkinson at the helm.
Matthew and his brigade strongly withhold the Hotel’s Green Policy which focuses on sourcing seasonal organic ingredients from carefully selected local suppliers, as well as cultivating and utilising The Montagu Arm's very own Kitchen garden; home to a brood of hens supplying the freshest breakfast eggs.
The Hotel believes that it is important to know where their produce comes from, not only to ensure quality but in order to maintain sustainability of local producers. Many of the Hotel’s chosen suppliers carry the New Forest Marque which proves to identify authentic New Forest fare of the highest quality.
The New Forest hotel’s winning Terrace Restaurant caused a stir earlier this spring, with an award from The Tea Guild - ‘Top City and Country Hotel Award’ for The Montagu’s Afternoon Tea, adding yet another accolade to the Hotel’s reputation for excellence.
The Tea Guild awards, which are considered as the ‘Oscars’ of the tea world, judged the nominees not only on quality of food and variety of cakes but on service and the staff’s own knowledge, ensuring that the winners define a perfect Afternoon Tea experience from start to finish.
The team at The Montagu Arms aim to deliver flawless service to guarantee an unforgettable guest experience by constantly improving and developing their own skills, and Restaurant Manager at The Terrace, Pierre Rizet, recently reached the semi-finals of the Master of Culinary Arts' Awards 2013; an advanced award, the MCAs take place every four years with the Academy’s priority being to ‘improve the standards of food, cooking and service in the UK, whilst raising the professional status of Chefs, Pastry Chefs and Restaurant Managers.’
The 17th Century New Forest hotel has proven to not only deliver award winning results in the Restaurant, but maintains a reputation for excellence across the Hotel, complimented by this latest ‘Sustainable Food Award’, and recently too, by retaining the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2013, which encompasses the entire guest experience.
