There’s certainly the scope to work in markets where you’re not the first mover but you execute better
Manchester (PRWEB UK) 27 June 2013
Russell Clements explains how he helped to make SThree a success story, and offers useful advice for anyone looking to grow their business, in a new interview on Find the Edge.
Speaking with the site's founder, Kenny Goodman, he covers a range of topics – including how he got started at the company, how they grew it through hard work and discipline, and how he dealt with the wealth it provided him with.
He says hard work and focus were key to making a success of the company: "Our core working hours were 9-9, Monday to Thursday and 9-7 on Fridays.
"We were a small company of young people who nevertheless took work very seriously and worked very hard. We had very high professional standards but, on the other hand, we also had a laugh.
"We had a very good platform in that we hired very good people from early on and we kept them."
Russell, who retired from his role as CEO in December last year - after 26 years at the company - also provides encouragement to anyone else who wants to start their own business, but is waiting for a totally unique idea.
He said: "If you’re going to say the only way to start up a business is to have an idea that no one’s ever had before, then forget it. Who ever stumbles across that kind of unique opportunity?
“There’s certainly the scope to work in markets where you’re not the first mover but you execute better.
“Do you have a proposition that you, yourself, really understand, and that you can articulate to staff and customers?"
