Whilst businesses are subjected to constant pressure to be innovative and not miss out on the latest technology trends, for fear of being left behind in an ever-evolving space, a leading provider of intelligent business solutions has urged businesses not to succumb to this pressure. The Remark Group advises that businesses focus on their requirements and budget constraints rather than following the trends when it comes to technology, specifically in relation to IT solutions for their business.

For instance, the clamour for the cloud continues and it remains 'on-trend', as do Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony systems, but might not be right for every business. David Lyons, IT director for the Remark Group, explains: "The trend of moving some or all of the business operations to the cloud is continuing to grow, and can be a viable way forward for many businesses. However, it shouldn't be followed just because it is the buzzword of the moment.

"Moving to the cloud is a major IT change, and clear benefits to both the business and end user muse be carefully considered. In addition, security can be a big issue, and whilst we're assured of cloud safety, many businesses might want to use it as a great back-up solution but might not want to rely on it 100 per cent as the main information storage facility."

Another growing trend among businesses is the move to include business telephone systems that use Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), which can offer many benefits such as substantial cost savings as well as additional collaborative features. However, businesses should check, or take professional advice, on whether their band width is sufficient to facilitate an effective service, and sound quality can't always be guaranteed.

David added; "Whilst innovations in technology are essentially developed to help or even revolutionise in some cases, it doesn't mean they will be beneficial to each and every business adopting them. It can be very easy to follow the crowd for fear of missing out on the latest technology, but the cost of implementing new technology has to be justified, so if it doesn't make life easier, the business run smoother or enhance the service to the end user, it is simply a gimmick."

The Remark Group provides a range of business solutions spanning network cabling, telecoms, IT helpdesk services, electrical including commercial lighting and full system maintenance or upgrade and audio visual services. Its expertise lies in the design and installation of such services.
