Newport News, VA (PRWEB) June 28, 2013
Riverside Health System is pleased to announce that Michael Doucette was named Senior Vice President and Administrator of Riverside Regional Medical Center, and Eric Stone, M.D., was appointed Associate Administrator/Vice President Clinical Operations at the hospital.
Riverside operates as a physician-partnered health system, which pairs a physician and a business executive in leadership positions. Doucette and Stone will team up as the administrative team steering the Peninsula’s largest tertiary hospital and only trauma center, effective July 1.
Doucette has a 24-year career in administration in the Riverside Health System. Since 2009, he served as Vice President/Operations, where he was responsible for overall facility operations, budget, quality and service performance. During his tenure, the hospital was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures from The Joint Commission in 2011 and 2012. Before coming to the hospital, he was Vice President/Administrator of Riverside Medical Group, where he led the development of an integrated physician group that today has grown to more than 500 providers and has become the backbone of the Riverside Health System.
“The medical center’s board has really been impressed by the all the awards we’ve received for patient safety and clinical quality improvements. My goal is to keep that momentum going and have safety and quality processes in place 100 percent of the time,” Doucette said.
“Patient satisfaction is something you can always improve on. We’re making changes to our food service and physical improvements to the medical center and focusing on how we treat patients. The kindness, the care, the compassion – we’re really stepping up to the next level to improve patient satisfaction.”
Stone comes from a 25-year career in Air Force medicine that included clinical, educational, operational and executive medicine roles on military bases on the East and West coasts as well as in Japan, Italy and the Azores, Portugal. Most recently, he served as hospital commander of USAF Hospital Langley from 2009 to 2012, where he oversaw strategic plans and operations and 1,300 people in the fastest-growing hospital in the Air Force.
Since 2012, Stone worked as a family physician with Riverside Medical Group in Hayes, Va., where he reconnected to clinical practice and began learning the differences of civilian health care from the front lines.
Dr. Stone is assuming a new role. He will team up with our clinicians and focus on integrating the complete span of medical services across Riverside Regional as well as assist with a seamless transition to the most appropriate care level, be it home or to a rehabilitation facility.
“I joined medicine to help people and try to serve them,” Stone said. “I’m very excited to be given this opportunity. Riverside Health System is on a journey to become a highly functional integrated medical system. Providing great customer service in a safe environment with high-quality medical care is the foundation for building such a highly functional integrated medical system. I look forward to joining the team in navigating this journey.”
“We are excited to have Michael Doucette and Dr. Eric Stone heading Riverside Regional Medical Center,” said William B. Downey, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Riverside Health System.
“Mr. Doucette has been instrumental in the successes Riverside Regional Medical Center and Riverside Medical Group have seen in recent years. His unique experience leading both the physician group and being engaged in hospital operations, positions him well to lead Riverside Regional Medical Center. Dr. Stone’s clinical experience will complement Mr. Doucette’s knowledge of the Riverside Health System. Under their leadership, Riverside Regional Medical Center will continue to be the destination of choice for patients across the Peninsula.”
