We are proud of the role we have played in demonstrating that replacement is not the only option for dealing with the excessive energy use associated with RTUs.

Transformative Wave, developer of the CATALYST, North America’s leading rooftop unit (RTU) retrofit product, is pleased to announce it is an official “Supporter” of the Advanced RTU Campaign (ARC). ARC is a collaboration between ASHRAE, Retail Industry Leaders Association, and the Department of Energy’s Better Building Alliance. The campaign encourages commercial building owners and operators to take advantage of energy saving opportunities by replacing older existing RTUs with high-efficiency units and retrofitting RTUs with useful life using an advanced RTU control product like the CATALYST. ARC provides building owners and operators with access to information and expertise to lower facility operating costs by highlighting available products and sharing examples of successful projects.
Michael Deru, Technical Lead for the Advanced RTU Campaign, comments, “There are tremendous opportunities for energy savings in existing rooftop units, and the Advanced RTU Campaign was initiated to promote these opportunities to building owners. The campaign promotes early retirement of older RTUs with a highefficiency replacement and retrofitting younger RTUs with advanced controls. The CATALYST is an example of these retrofit control packages, and Transformative Wave is a supporting partner in this campaign.”
Danny Miller, President of Transformative Wave, commented, “We are proud of the role we have played in demonstrating that replacement is not the only option for dealing with the excessive energy use associated with RTUs. Replacement is an inevitability, but if we can deliver similar results by retrofitting existing units with the CATALYST, it extends their useful life, saves valuable capital, and avoids the use of natural resources required to manufacture and install new units.”
In a study completed by the Department of Energy (DOE)’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) the application of the CATALYST as an advanced HVAC retrofit solution for RTU’s concluded that building owners could save on average 38 percent on their heating and cooling bills. This finding led to the DOE’s inclusion of retrofit in the campaign. The Advanced RTU Campaign is based in part on the convincing evidence that has been gained from data collected on Transformative Wave’s CATALYST projects across the country and a fouryear track record in the field.
