Macquarie Telecom (ASX: MAQ), Australia’s number one Managed Hosting and business-only telecommunications company, announced its $60m Intellicentre 2 (IC2) data centre in Macquarie Park has been certified for Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).

The certification adds to Intellicentre 2’s credentials as a world-class data centre for physical and cyber security, and follows previous announcements that this new facility, opened in September by the Prime Minister of Australia, meets critical levels of information security, performance and design as defined by ISO27001, ASIO T4 “Intruder Resistant” and Uptime Institute Tier III Design.

“The security of online financial transactions directly impacts not only the reputation but fundamental profitability of businesses in a whole range of industries,” said Macquarie Telecom MD, Hosting Aidan Tudehope. “Achieving PCI-DSS highlights Macquarie Telecom’s commitment to the privacy and security of credit card data, comprising only one part of our holistic approach to rigorous data security across all our systems.”

Administered by the global PCI Security Standards Council, PCI standards underpin the data security compliance programs of the Council’s five founding payment brands, including American Express, MasterCard and Visa. PCI-DSS certification indicates that a service provider employs a robust security process for prevention, detection and response to incidents related to payment card transactions and data.

“PCI-DSS is the foremost global standard for e-commerce security, one which the majority of businesses consider a prerequisite for any service provider dealing in online financial transactions,” said Aidan Tudehope. “The certification of Intellicentre 2 demonstrates to Macquarie Telecom’s client base that our infrastructure is well-equipped to handle data in a secure and reliable manner. When combined with the facility’s other certifications, every aspect of IC2 is based around secure uptime performance”
