By educating the public and doing these events and screenings, I believe we are saving lives.
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) June 28, 2013
NFL players past and present are coming out in high numbers to show support for "Tackle Sleep Apnea" events by sharing their personal struggles with attendees. David Gergen, President of Pro Player Health Alliance (PPHA), says "Pro Player Health Alliance is an incredible organization out to help those who suffer from sleep apnea. Working with sleep apnea patients, I know how easy it can be to treat this disorder and our organization has already had a huge positive impact on many." "Tackle Sleep Apnea" events are free public events intended to educate attendees on the effects of sleep apnea and how they can get treated.
Gergen has explained how the idea of forming an "Alliance" with NFL legends to promote awareness started when he met Derek Kennard, a Super Bowl champion who played center for Troy Aikman. Unfortunately his brother, who is sadly no longer with us, suffered from the effects of this disorder. Kennard mentions, "If I would have met Mr. Gergen four years ago, I feel I could have saved my brother's life. If it weren't for his work, I might not be here today."
Not only has Derek gotten a better night's sleep since being treated, he has also lost over 120 pounds and feels more energized throughout the day. “It is more than a game, and with the right team we can be proactive and come out winning,” says David Gergen who has gotten over 160 former professional athletes treated as well as hundreds more of the general public since launching the "Tackle Sleep Apnea" campaign.
Mr. Gergen's idea to host free events partnered with outstanding doctors and NFL legends has brought out over 1,000 people to be educated on sleep apnea. David Gergen says, "I encourage everyone to come to the PPHA events, if possible, whether it be for yourself or a loved one. By educating the public and doing these events and screenings, I believe we are saving lives."
